BOTANICAL NAMES Liriodendron tulipifera.
ORIGINS FAMILY It belongs to the family of Magnoliaceae.
GROWTH AREA The Toulipier is one of the most abundant hardwoods in the Eastern United States. Poplar grows throughout the Appalachian region and is found in the South along the Gulf Coast, in central Florida, and in areas of Arkansas and Louisiana.
SPECIFIC WEIGHT 450 kg/m³ al 12% C.U.
TECHNOLOGICAL FEATURES The sapwood varies from creamy white to greyish with streaks that tend to darken.
The heartwood, which is usually light brown, also has a wide variety of tones, ranging from green to dark purple.
Toulipier typically has a straight, uniform grain, with a medium texture.
Low natural luster.
DRYING METHOD The drying process takes place easily.
MAIN USES AND WORKING Toulipier is exceptionally easy to work with both hand and machine tools, although its woolly texture can blunt tools slightly.
It has satisfactory properties of nailing, screwing and gluing and also retains paint, enamel and stains.
This wood is often used for moldings and milling, boxes, pallets, shipping crates, veneers, chipboard panels, interior finishes and furniture in general.
