TECHNOLOGICAL FEATURES | The color of the wood varies from yellowish brown color to dark lustrous brown. The sapwood is not well defined and has a color that tends to greenish-yellow. The grain is straight while the texture is fine. Itauba has a good resistance to fungi and termite attacks. |
DRYING METHOD | It should be carefully and slowly dried to avoid splitting. |
MAIN USES AND WORKING | This wood can be work well without difficulties. The use of hard metal tools is advised, since the wood contains Silica, causing a blunting effect. The gluing and finishing properties are quite good. Thanks to its favourable properties, Itauba can be used for both interior and exterior use such as: interior and exterior joinery, heavy carpentry, bridges, ship building, sleepers, sliced veneer, flooring, stairs and turned goods. |
